According to the Flying Stars school of Feng Shui, there are certain energies that influence each direction for a certain period of time. These energies are expressed with numbers from 1 to 9 and are called Flying Stars. Some of those stars are positive, while others are negative.
It is very important around the 4th of February of each year to take precautions in order to reduce the influence of the negative stars. If negative stars visit crucial areas of our living space, such as our bed, main door, office or cashier.
The diagram shown below has the position of all the stars during 2009. You may notice that South is at the top side of the diagram.

Flying Stars in 2009
(04.02.2009 – 03.02.2010)
North
The worse flying star is number 5 and in 2009 it is located at the North. This star can cause obstacles and trouble of all kinds. You may reduce it if:
- Avoid sleeping at the North sector of your house, if possible, and especially during the months of March, April, July, September, October, December and January 2010.
- Add at the north sector more metal or still water element. For example, put a transparent glass filled by 1/3 of thick salt, 1/3 of water, add 6 copper coins and 1 silver colour coin. You may add more metallic objects (e.g. photo frames, coins etc), colours (gold, silver, grey, white) or metal shapes (oval).
- If your TV, fan, radio, water fountain is located at the North, try to use it less, especially during the months I just mentioned.
- Avoid fire element in the North, avoiding its colours (red, pink, purple etc), shapes (zic-zac, pointy), or if your fireplace is there try not to use it so often this year
- Avoid renovation, construction, planting inside and outside of the north sector of your house or business.
West
Star 2 is located in the West in 2009. This star can cause sickness. You may reduce it :
- Avoid sleeping in the West.
- Add more element metal in the West, in means of material (metallic coins & decorations), colours (white, grey, gold, copper etc) shapes (oval) or a set of 6 coins strapped next to each other with an adhesive tape.
- Avoid the fire element in the West, by avoiding fire colours (eg red, purple etc) shapes (zic-zac & pointy) and also avoid candles and using the fireplace a lot.
Northeast
The star 3 is located in the NE, which brings trouble and even burglary and theft. You may reduce the problem:
- Increase security if your cashier in the shop or where you keep the money is located in the NE.
- Add more fire element in the NE, e.g. add a red carpet, pillow or cloth in the NE.
East
The star 7 is in the East, bringing more scandals. Reduce it:
- Place a clear vase with water and 3 branches of bamboo.
- Make wood element stronger in the East, by placing wood or still water, such as more green, blue or black colour and wooden objects.
Grand Duke, the 3 Shars and Clash in 2009
During 2009 in the NE (specifically 22.5° - 37.5° on the compass) there is Grand Duke Jupiter (also known as Tai Sui).
- Avoid facing these degrees specifically
- Avoid renovation, digging earth, planting or construction in this direction.
- Do not construct a building this year that is facing the Grand Duke.
- Avoid trips towards the direction of the Grand Duke, especially if you are bon in the year of the goat or the year of the ox.
The 3 Shars (also known as san sha or 3 killings ) are located at NE3 (more specifically 52.5°-67.5° on the compass), in the middle sector of the East (82.5°-97.5°) and SE1 (112.5°-127.5°). The shar in the East is the worse.
- Avoid having any of the shars behind your back. Each one of the 3 shars is extending to 15 degrees exactly, so avoid having your back exactly at this sector.
- Avoid digging, construction, renovation, planting inside and outside your house at this sector.
Clash (also known as sui po) is a location that is under clash (fighting) with the year. As 2009 is the year of the ox and the animal clashing with the ox is the goat, the goat direction on a compass is the clash position of the year. In 2009 its SW1 (202.5° – 217.5° on the compass). So:
- Avoid construction, moving earth, digging, renovation etc at SW1
- Avoid having your back at this sector.
Important note
All these influences that I mention are not the only ones that influence a home or business. Each building has its own flying star chart, which is calculated based on the exact degrees of facing of the building and the time period of construction. A Feng Shui specialist can combine the personal flying star chart of the building together with the yearly and monthly flying star influence, considering shapes/colours and materials that appear in the outside and inside of a given space, achieving this way excellent results.
